Out of the Mouth of Babes

Well, I decided this week it is true that kids say the darndest things. Some of you know that phrase is a reference to one of the early kings of television, Art Linkletter, and his afternoon TV show called “House Party” which aired in the 50’s and 60’s. The first fifteen minutes of the show he interviewed some forgettable guests, but the last fifteen minutes he played the straight man as he interviewed four children ages 4 – 10, and often got the most outrageous answers to some very simply questions. Family Values

Well, I saw the latest rendition of Batman at the theater on Thursday night, and I will say that it was a piece of work.  I liked it OK, but I am not yet willing to use the word “great” which seems to be casually flung around by most others as the movie’s predominate descriptor.  But it was very good albeit very disturbing.  Continue reading

The Hour of Power

Since I have been on my diet I have learned to do without foods that I use to worship.  I was once a first-rate chocoholic, and now nothing.  I quit cold turkey.  I ate one last Almond Joy and never looked back. And do you know what?  I don’t really miss it anymore.  Sure I went through D.T.s for about a month.  I was so desperate for chocolate that a stale chewy butter finger or a rotten malt ball would have been nirvana. Boys Don’t Cry

Well, I am very thankful to be a part of a very progressive congregation and for lots of reasons. Because the truth is, whatever our limitations are as a very small church are insignificant compared to our upside, which is basically we always put people before rules, we have absolute positive regard for all God’s children, and we think our spirituality is way more important than the institutional church. For the Glory of God

Well, I read a fascinating story this week in USA Today sports, maybe you heard or read the story:

A hole-in-one is rare on the golf course, but what are the odds of a blind golfer sinking one? Leo Fiyalko couldn’t see it, but his golf buddies did — a hole-in-one on the fifth hole at the Cove Cay Country Club. Continue reading
